ProfHolod, the number one Russian producer of sandwich panels with polyurethane core, has reported cutting the CO2 emissions at its manufacturing site in the Moscow region.

A solar power plant with a capacity of 19.2 KWh, installed on the outside of ProfHolod’s continuous line building for the production of PIR Premier sandwich panels, generated more than 19,000 kWh of electricity in 2018. Over three years since installation ProfHolod cut its emissions by the equivalent of more than 50 tons of greenhouse gases. The station was designed and built by SolarOn, the first solar module manufacturer in Armenia.

19,000 kWh are equivalent to about three weeks of work of the workshop for the production of ProfHolod’s refrigeration and technological doors. The maximum power generation rate, 2,700 KWh per month, was recorded in August 2018.

Since its installation in 2016, the station has produced more than 50,000 KWh. To make the same amount of energy a typical power plant would use more than 20 tons of coal or 2,700 trees.

Information on the station is available to ProfHolod specialists online at the SEMS electronic monitoring system, which is supplied with the power plant.

According to expert estimates of the SolarOn company, three years ago the payback period for such a station amounted to about 22 years. Today, due to the rise in electricity prices and a decrease in components used in solar stations, the payback period has dwindled to about 12 years.

“It is much more productive to talk about the payback period of the station if the legislation allows the consumer not only to consume, but also to generate and sell electricity. Russia yet has no such legislation or applies it very selectively, ”says Vahe Sharafyan, Director of ProfHolod’s Department for the technical solutions and new developments.

ProfHolod offers freezing chambers with solar panels to professionals of the refrigeration industry. Green energy for cooling air in such chambers comes from solar panels. The refrigeration equipment is also connected to additional energy sources: generators or a fixed electrical network.

Demand for autonomous cold stores is growing in the southern agrarian regions of Russia and abroad. Currently, SolarOn is installing the largest roof-top solar station in Armenia with a total capacity of 500 KWh on a logistic building constructed of Profholod PIR Premier sandwich panels.

ProfHolod is a Russian expert in innovative heat management technologies. ProfHolod encourages the refrigeration industry to take advantage of new technologies to save energy and reduce electricity costs.
